Between notions of body-as-text and and the emergence of social virtual worlds, like Second Life, it is perhaps not too surprising that <a title=\"O'Reilly on Web2\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.oreillynet.com\/pub\/a\/oreilly\/tim\/news\/2005\/09\/30\/what-is-web-20.html\">Web2<\/a> provides a whole new dimension to social referencing &#8211; and <a title=\"Social bookmarking\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Social_bookmarking\">social bookmarking<\/a>, whether through shared possessions via Amazon or <a title=\"Librarything\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.librarything.com\/\">LibraryThing<\/a> or through the varieties of online community that emerged in the last decade of the 20th century, through to <a title=\"YouTube\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/\">YouTube<\/a> and <a title=\"Flikr\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/\">Flikr<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One aspect that characterises the new web is the increasing capacity to annotate or edit socially written texts &#8211; through wikis or collaborative projects, such as those referenced in Mark Marina&#8217;s &#8216;<a target=\"_blank\" title=\"Marginalia in the library of babel\" href=\"http:\/\/writerresponsetheory.org\/wordpress\/2007\/02\/09\/marginalia-in-the-library-of-babel\/\">Marginalia in the library of babel<\/a>&#8216; project. Diigo software adds a further dimension to social bookmarking:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>If social bookmarking allows us to share our library catalogs, social annotation sites allow us to share our libraries complete with their underlinings, highlights, and marginalia.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image518\" alt=\"Marginalia\" src=\"http:\/\/lostbiro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/02\/wrt.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Web2 has been with us for some time increasing possibilities for social transparency transforming notions of privacy and ownership into a new form of social space and cultural intimacy.
