And some are truly exquisite works of design.<\/p>\n<p>The <a title=\"Japanese manhole covers\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/damncoolpics.blogspot.com\/2006\/12\/japanese-manhole-cover-art.html\">&#8216;damn cool pics&#8217;<\/a> blog has some fine examples &#8211; the flower designs are amazing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Tokyo manhole cover\" id=\"image465\" src=\"http:\/\/lostbiro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/01\/jpn-manhole.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nI photographed this one in the <strong>Ginza district<\/strong> &#8211; apparently a sewage cover.<br \/>\nAnd <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"Japanese manhole covers\" href=\"http:\/\/users.rcn.com\/fgardino\/Japan.htm\">here&#8217;s another fine collection<\/a> &#8211; from all over the world. But they include Japanese ones, and not just from Tokyo either!<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" title=\"Manhole Covers of Tokyo\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eps.vic.edu.au\/japan\/cover.htm\">Manhole Covers of Tokyo<\/a> provides a useful typology of the covers, including information on what they are covering &#8211; whether utilities or sewage or fire hydrants.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Tokyo manhole cover\" id=\"image466\" src=\"http:\/\/lostbiro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/01\/jpn-manhole1.jpg\" \/><br \/>\nThis one I found <strong>near the wharf in Tsukiji district not far from Takeshiba station<\/strong>.
