{"id":1117,"date":"2008-01-31T06:32:09","date_gmt":"2008-01-30T20:32:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lostbiro.com\/blog\/?p=1117"},"modified":"2008-01-31T06:32:09","modified_gmt":"2008-01-30T20:32:09","slug":"making-a-pochette","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/lostbiro.com\/blog\/?p=1117","title":{"rendered":"Making a pochette"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been reading Bruce Ossman&#8217;s book: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1565230914?ie=UTF8&#038;tag=lostbirocom-20&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=9325&#038;creativeASIN=1565230914\">Violin Making: A Guide for the Amateur<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=lostbirocom-20&#038;l=as2&#038;o=1&#038;a=1565230914\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" \/>. This is an excellent book showing with clear diagrams every stage of violin construction. My only minor criticism is the mix of metric and imperial measurements &#8211; thicknesses are in 1\/32&#8243; while lengths are in centimetres &#8211; but the clear diagrams throughout are very self explanatory.<\/p>\n<p>From this I have adapted the techniques of traditional violin making to design and begin construction of a pochette &#8211; a kind of travel fiddle popular in the eighteenth century by itinerant dancing masters.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image1116\" src=\"http:\/\/lostbiro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/jpochette2.jpg\" alt=\"pochette  under construction\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So far I have the mold made and the ribs cut to size and thicknessed.
