{"id":1064,"date":"2007-11-13T06:53:31","date_gmt":"2007-11-12T20:53:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lostbiro.com\/blog\/?p=1064"},"modified":"2007-11-13T06:53:31","modified_gmt":"2007-11-12T20:53:31","slug":"nz-travel-christchurch-surroundings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/lostbiro.com\/blog\/?p=1064","title":{"rendered":"NZ travel: Christchurch surroundings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The scenery in the surrounding hills around Christchurch is breathtaking &#8211; we took the road up to Mt Cavendish lookout (where the Gondola cable-car goes to), and found a delightful road the wound around various coastal villages and then up to a fabulous view of Lyttelton on one side and Christchurch on the other.<\/p>\n<p>The lookout may well have been designed by hobbits!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image1066\" src=\"http:\/\/lostbiro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/11\/nzmtcav1.jpg\" alt=\"Mt Cavendish NZ\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image1067\" src=\"http:\/\/lostbiro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/11\/nzmtcav.jpg\" alt=\"Mt Cavendish NZ\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Lyttelton is situated in a bay created by the collapsed crater wall of an extinct volcano. The water is beautifully clear and deep azure blue in colour.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image1065\" src=\"http:\/\/lostbiro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/11\/nzmtcav2.jpg\" alt=\"Mt Cavendish NZ\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It is a picturesque town &#8211; site of the landing harbour of the First Four Ships of the Canterbury Association fleet.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image1068\" src=\"http:\/\/lostbiro.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/11\/nzlyt1.jpg\" alt=\"Lyttelton NZ\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you have the time, it&#8217;s worth tooling around those hills in a hire car or motorcycle &#8211; great roads (if quite narrow in places with steep unguarded drops over the side. But the surface is good bitumen and the curves make for a lovely gentle motorbike slalom.
